Mom's Back to School List: Family Meeting

Mom's Back to School List: Family Meeting

The best way to use our time wisely is to PREPARE! So this month in honor of our children heading back to school I thought I’d share ideas for us moms on how we can best prepare our heads and hearts for this season.

First up on Mom’s Back to School List is the Family Meeting. It sounds so simple but many of us mom's forget to include the whole family when we plan. Set aside some time to sit down with your family and ask what their goals are for the start of school. Create strategies that everyone can be involved in for getting places on time, etc.

Family meting suggested ground rules:
1. Find a time when there are no other distractions and everyone is in a good mood (well fed, not tired, not worried about getting somewhere on time).
2. Make the event special. Have a fun snack or drink. Do a fun icebreaker question to get people talking.
3. Ask everyone to write down 1-3 goals for the start of the school year.
4. Get practical, talk about morning routines and after school routines. When will kids do homework, will they want help? What after school activities do they want to participate in?
5. Set a time/date for a follow up meeting for 1 month into the school year. This allows you to come back to what was discussed and figure out how everyone is feeling.

These are just a few suggestions of how to conduct you family meeting!
