Summer Ideas for Spiritual Growth

Summer Ideas for Spiritual Growth

Let’s face it the summer can be a hard time to see growth in our lives. Kids are out of school and begging for attention and asking what the next activity will be. Days are longer and we find it’s harder to get up early in the morning for that daily quiet time we usually start with. If any of this rings true for you I have some suggestions on how you can still pursue spiritual growth this summer!

  1. Scripture Reading Plan: Summer is a great time to simply savor the Word. You can get a reading plan from online (I have many options available), the back of your Bible, or simply choose a book of the Bible to read through. Having a plan helps you stay on track throughout the busyness of the summer season.

  2. Prayer Walks: I love walking! Especially in the summer months when the sun sets later and the days seem longer. Take a walk at a local botanical garden and thank God for the beauty you see. Or walk around your community and pray for your neighbors. Invite your children to join you and make it a family tradition one a day or week.

  3. Scripture Meditation: Choose 1-2 verses to meditate on over the next several weeks. Read it every day slowly noticing different things that stick out to you each time. Use this verse as an anchor for your soul in this season.

  4. Prayer Journal: There is power in writing your prayers down. It allows you to see patterns of requests or thanks that you offer to God daily. Also there is beauty in writing down answered prayers to give you encouragement in difficult seasons. You can use any journal you want! There are also many options online. Link to my prayer journal here.

  5. Scripture Memorization: Summer is the perfect time to get the whole family involved! Have one verse a week that you all work on memorizing. Make it a fun competition with a prize for everyone who does it each week. Take turns letting each family member choose the verse to memorize.

Summer is a great time to change up your regular routine and try something new. Which of these are you most excited to try?
