Be Present
With every passing minute I become more aware of the many ways life is hectic, and constantly trying to pull me out of living in the moment. But that doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to appreciate the here and now. If you struggle with living into each moment try some of the suggestions below. Remember Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” In God there is always joy.
Eliminate Distractions
No...not your kids. What are the things that are taking you out of the moment? Silence your phone, make a list of the swirling thoughts so you can be present. Identifty the things that might be steeling your attention and then find ways to set them aside.
Do One Thing at a Time
Multitasking is great but, also can create a sense of chaos or nervous energy. Bring attention to doing one thing at a time. If you get interuppted its ok to set it down and come back to it later.
Stop Hurrying
Faster isn’t better. When we hurry through our days we stop noticing the details around us. If you notice you are starting to feel the need to rush, try to slow down. Or ask yourself, what am I rushing toward?
Look for the Roses
You know the saying, stop and smell the roses. Here’s the thing, how about we just start by looking for the roses. When we bring attention to seeking things out in our day we become more present to the details around us. Try looking for something specific (color, word, etc). See if brings you to a new awareness.
