I say this to my oldest son regularly. We can be in the middle of a fun activity and suddenly his face will turn towards me and he will ask me what he can do next. He has already removed himself from the present and is worrying about the future. What will it look like? Will it be as much fun as he is having now?
Truthfully it’s not just my son who does this. I can get caught up with looking more towards the next thing rather than seeing what is now. I can doubt what is in store. Sometimes what’s next is not going to be great. It might be painful or scary. Sometimes it will be more beautiful than you can imagine.
In the meantime, stop worrying about what’s next and enjoy what is now.
